Hello again from Burgess Towers.
Welcome to September’s newsletter.
The Price We Pay
It’s here!
It’s exciting to announce that the audio version of The Price We Pay is out now. It’s narrated by the fabulous Perdita Lawton and is available from Amazon, Audible, and Apple Books.
I’m a relatively recent convert to audiobooks, but now I couldn’t imagine a long car journey or walk without them. No need for an Audible subscription, and there’s a free app for your phone. Now you can enter the world of Carrie Tyler and let Perdita do all the work.
And why stop there? All four books in The Fifth Series are also available, narrated by the very talented Lee Beddow.

DI Carrie Tyler – Book 2
Back to Carrie, the latest draft (Version 7) of Fair Play is now with ‘she of the red pen’. I’m really pleased how this is shaping up. Hopefully, it won’t be long before we get the official ‘thumbs up’ and you’ll be able to see what I’ve been up to for the last nine months. There’ definite whiff of autumn in the air in this one, with most of the action taking place in October. Fancy a sneaky peek? This is from an early flashback. Ever had one of those days?
He searched his hungover memory, trying to piece together the events. The raid had been a success. Elation in the back of the van to the debriefing. Beers afterwards. Lots of beers and, of course, cocaine. A full day of drinking, straight through to the evening session. No problem there. Then the woman and back to her hotel room. All good so far.
None of that explained why he now appeared to be strapped to a chair, with a bin liner over his head. Tilting his head did two things. First, it induced a wave of nausea. He concentrated very hard on not throwing up in the bag. Second, it allowed him to see beyond the bin liner to the floor. He was naked. Odd, he thought. He could also see a pair of shiny black Doc Martens boots with yellow laces. I’m fairly sure the woman hadn’t been a size eleven. We have a problem.
One last word on Carrie for this month…
I’m hoping to publish French and German language versions soon. However, my last French lesson was almost fifty years ago, and I speak not a word of German. If you or someone you know is a native speaker of either language, and fancy a read to check the quality of the translation, please reply to this email for a chat.
What have I been reading?
As most of you know, I’m a bit of a music nut. I’m also a big fan of the writing of Stuart Maconie, so when he writes about music, there’s a fair chance he will hit the sweet spot. So, my recommendation this month is Stuart’s With A Little Help From Their Friends – a fascinating and original take on the story of The Beatles.
Whatever you’re reading, have a great month.
