Review: Run Away Home: Tempered by Catherine Manett

At twenty, Peter is almost ready to leave the safety of his foster home. When his foster mother is terminally ill, Peter is determined to keep the family together. Together, they arrange for Peter to take over responsibility for Hayley (who is almost the same age) and 13-year-old Danny. Together, they move to an apartment, but their problems, secrets and past lives are never far from the surface.

Through sharp and witty dialogue, we follow the challenges faced by fascinating characters. Before long, we are rooting for Peter while worrying that something dreadful could happen at any moment.

Each chapter is split to see the action from each character’s point of view. This caused a little confusion early on (saying more about me than the book!). However, this was not enough to detract from my enjoyment.

I loved this story and think you will too. The good news is that this is the first of a trilogy. I’m already looking forward to book 2.
